Evolution have undertaken several projects to convert loft spaces into additional living accommodation. Such projects can often be undertaken as permitted development but will sometimes require planning permission. Building regulation approval is always required.

When designing for the conversion of loft spaces, the main items to consider are:

  • Providing sufficient head height.
  • Accommodating the additional floor loading.
  • Accommodating a stair and the impact on existing accommodation.
  • Thermally upgrading the envelope.
  • The impact on the existing mechanical and electrical installation.
  • Acoustic issues.
  • Party wall issues.
  • Designing for fire.

Here are a number of photographs both internally and externally from some of our loft conversions.
